LINK BETWEEN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
AND VOLUNTEER LAWYERS

Sponsored by the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation

The Pro Bono Clearinghouse links non-profit organizations
with volunteer lawyers who offer legal assistance.

Non-profit organizations face some of the same complex issues as for-profit entities. Frequently, non-profits do not have the contacts or the resources to locate and retain appropriate counsel. The Clearinghouse has been established to provide a link between non-profits and the legal community in the Richmond metropolitan area. The Clearinghouse responds to requests by non-profits for legal advice in such areas as:

    • Preparing and Amending Organization Documents
• Contracts
• Tax/Charitable Giving
• Employment/Labor Law
• Corporate Authorization of Transactions
• Finance
• Buying and Selling Property
• Leasing/Rental Matters
• Insurance
• Franchise/Affiliation Issues
• Land Use/Permitting
• Intellectual Property
• Mergers

The process is simple.

The non-profit contacts the Clearinghouse and completes a simple questionnaire describing the non-profit’s mission, structure and services, as well as the nature of the request for legal assistance. The Clearinghouse Coordinator then contacts one of the volunteer lawyers in its extensive database whose practice matches the non-profit’s need. The non-profit is given the lawyer’s name and contact information to follow up with the lawyer.

The Clearinghouse helps non-profits resolve
legal issues efficiently and effectively.

The Clearinghouse reduces the amount of time that non-profits spend seeking legal counsel. Because referrals will be made based upon specific legal questions, the referral will have a higher likelihood of success.
