Frequently Asked Questions

For Attorney Volunteers

Q. What is the scope of the volunteer’s job?

A. The scope of the engagement will be detailed in an engagement letter to be signed by the NPO and by the volunteer. The volunteer will be a resource for identifying legal issues for which the NPO should consider engaging legal representation (pro bono or otherwise).  The volunteer will also help identify legal compliance risks for the NPO based on the NPO’s standard operating procedures and its charter documents.  The volunteer is not expected to represent the NPO in resolving such legal issues; however, the volunteer may do so at his/her election.

Q. What is the expected time commitment?

A. Each relationship between volunteer and NPO may be different; however, we anticipate the time commitment will be between five and ten hours per month, perhaps more at the beginning as the volunteer is learning about the organization.

Q. When will I be notified if I am chosen for the Class of 2020?

A. We will notify volunteers as soon as we have determined the need based on the expected number of NPOs that will be participating in 2020. We expect to make such determination by early November.

Q. When will I be notified about what nonprofit organization I am matched with?

A. At the same time that you are notified that you have been chosen to participate in the Class of 2020.

Q. Am I covered under the GRBF malpractice insurance?

A. Any work the volunteers do in connection with this program will be covered under the Foundation’s insurance policy.

Q. Where can I find the recorded training sessions?

A. They will be posted on the GRBF website. (Exact link TBA)
